Exercise – football training. Running, kicking, jogging, falling.

Could feel the ankle a bit, but I think it’s nearly back to full strength. Will find out tomorrow on the long run. I should really be looking for a job at the moment, but I’ve just got the first season of The Wire, which I’m told is the best think since sliced Sopranos.

Food – granola and muesli, juice, banana, apple, orange, beans on toast, pasta.

Exercise – gymbo. 40 minutes cardio, 40 minutes adjusting the seat height on the exercise bike.

+++

Back on track. Felt good to burn off some of the weekend sins and the bike is getting easier. Lifting slightly more weights as well though that’s not as important as the cardio stuff. From what I’ve read it helps to have a strong core, so I’ve been trying to include some sit-ups and dips etc at the gym.

Football training tomorrow then another lengthy effort on Wednesday.

Ah it all went askew tonight. Exercise tomorrow. Almost definitely.

Food – scrambled eggs, toast, juice, sandwich, home made pizza, garlic bread, 4 beers.

Exercise – watched a game of football and became fitter through osmosis. While drinking the beers.

It threatened to rain today and I threatened to exercise, but we were both bluffing. Actually it did rain a bit.

My own team has a game tomorrow, if I don’t play I’ll put in a long run.

Promise.

Food – weetabix, toast, veggie juice, banana, 2 x ham/cheese salad sandwiches, orange, apple, chicken fajitas.

Exercise – headed to the gym before I had time to change my mind. 40 minutes cardio, 40 minutes miming breaking the tape at a finish line.

+++

Feeling good today and the new runners seem okay. I’ll test them properly on the next long run. Veerrryyy few people at the gym tonight. Just me and and a few intense looking dudes jostling for space in front of the mirrors. Friday nights are made for the pub, if I remember correctly. Now that I’m an elite athlete I’m thinking of doing Dry July. One of my two older sisters suggested it and if I go through with it, it’ll be the longest I’ve been without a drink in about 10 years.

Although I am almost abstaining as it is, a long break is probably overdue.

Food – granola/yoghurt, banana, cheesecake, beans on toast, orange, ham sandwich, soup… with toast.

Exercise – none. Rest day, remember?

Finally caved and bought a new pair of runners today. They’re comfortable, light and springy. I expect those three things to last for about 2 weeks, but if they go above and beyond I’ll post a photo and let you know where I got them. My old pair are comfortable but have taken a beating and can blister the arches of my feet.

Feeling a bit sore from yesterday’s run but not too bad. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Phew. My first long run since the half Marathon last September (rough map below). It was tough, but not too tough. My pace was fairly steady and I only paused at traffic lights. I’m sure I’ll pay for it tomorrow, but I feel like I’m on track.

As a man 20 years my senior overtook me with ease, he remarked that it was a nice night for it, and it really was. Not too windy or cold, lightning flashes sparking far out to sea, and I even patted a curious horse’s muzzle as I jogged past his fence. I might bring a couple of sugar cubes next time. For energy.

I’m also learning what clothes will work best on the day. My socks were doing their best to disappear into my shoes, and my underpants were trying to Houdini up my bum. Live and learn.
